Tips to stay healthy this flu season

    1. Eat well, exercise, and get plenty of sleep.

    2.     Wash hands thoroughly and often.

    3.     Cough into a tissue or your sleeve.

    4.     Get a flu shot if advised by your Doctor.

    5. Stay home when not feeling well to help keep others healthy.

At the Shelby County Board of Developmental Disabilities, we will be following recommendations from the CDC (Center for Disease Control) for the H1N1 Virus

    1.     Routine daily health checks will be implemented.

2.     2. Frequently touched surfaces will be sanitized regularly.

    3.     Anyone diagnosed with H1N1 virus should stay at home

(except to seek medical care) for at least 7 days even if

        symptoms resolve sooner.

    4.     If illness continues beyond 7 days, stay at home until at

least 24 hours after symptoms resolve.

    5.     Anyone appearing to have flu-like illness during the program

day will be isolated from others and arrangements will be

made for the person to return home early.  A Doctor’s note

will be required to return to school/work when an actual

diagnosis of H1N1 has been made.

    6.     Communication will occur regularly with the Sidney-Shelby

        Health Department to obtain guidance.

    7.     Should a case of H1N1 virus be confirmed, it will be

communicated to individuals and families via the One Call

        Now system.

    8.     Closure of schools and programs is no longer recommended

as a primary means to reduce spreading of the flu. The focus

is on early identification of illness, staying home when ill,

and good cough and hand washing hygiene.
