The Shelby County ARC–
Advocacy*Respect*Concern is an organization that consists of parents and
families of individuals with developmental disabilities. The ARC runs a
Friday Nite Out program once a month which gives respite to families and
individuals. They also sponsor camps for individuals to attend in the
summer. For more information about the ARC and what it has to offer,

Special Olympics
– Special Olympics is a volunteer run program that offers individuals the
opportunity to play basketball, baseball, and compete in an annual track
and field event with their peers. For more information, please contact
Tony Sell at 622-0102.
Book Club
– Book Club consists of a group of adults who meet at a local café to
discuss a chosen book and interact with their peers. It meets once a week
on Thursdays for an hour. Contact your SSA or Lisa Schulze for more
information at 937-498-4229.
Cooking Class
– Monthly Cooking Classes are operated by the local Extension Office to
teach cooking skills. A ladies and a gentlemen’s cooking class meets
monthly at S&H to prepare healthy snacks and a Supper Cooking class also
meets monthly from 5:30 – 7:30 at the OSU Extension Office. To sign up or

Family Resources
– Family Resources is a program that offers funding to caretakers of
individuals who live with them. Two yearly allotments are given to
families that qualify to be used for services and/or items related to the
person’s disability. This program is organized by the SSA dept. For more
information call your SSA at 937-498-4229.
People First
– People First is a group of adult individual’s who happen to have a
developmental disability. They learn and practice self advocacy. This
group meets once a month and also plans activities and events. Please
